A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,â declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.
âUnless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,â she went on. âMay this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.â
The gathering, which both honors and questions the regionâs Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling â6-7â â originating from a rap song lyric â often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared â6-7â its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge âdistant from barbecues and spitsâ, according to the organizers' announcement.
âThis swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,â said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
âIt represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.â
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
