Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
