Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The effort hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely let down if it fails to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby features a selection of prominent voices from the industry. All participated in the September show, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a group of producers and composers. The track features a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have stated that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These proceeds will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of infrastructure described as destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is first of all making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The song is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
