Specialists Identify Russian Scare Campaign Against Cruise Missile Use
The Kremlin is conducting a strategic manipulation campaign of warnings to prevent the America from supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukrainian forces, according to military analysts. An influential official remarked: “We know these missiles completely, how they fly, defensive countermeasures, we worked on them in Syria, so it presents no surprises. The providers and the deploying forces will face consequences … We will develop strategies to target those who create problems for us.”
Ukrainian Counteroffensive Situation
Ukraine's military were imposing substantial damage in a strategic push in eastern Donetsk region, the war's main theatre, Ukraine's leader stated on midweek. The Ukrainian president's account, following a communication with his senior military officer, contrasted with Moscow's speech before defense leadership a previous day in which he claimed Russian troops possessed the military advantage in all frontline sectors.
According to analysis from early October, conflict monitors said Russia was experiencing substantial casualties, mainly because of Ukrainian drone attacks, in return for small operational progress. Kyiv's troops, the president stated, were “protecting our positions along multiple fronts”, referring specifically to the Kupiansk area, a significantly ruined town in north-eastern Ukraine under sustained offensive operations for several months.
Local Developments
Administrative officials in southern Ukraine of the Kherson oblast said military strikes on Wednesday caused three deaths in and around the urban center of the same name. Local authorities of Sumy region, on the northern frontier with Russia, said three individuals were killed in Russian drone attacks in multiple locations. Ukraine's air force said it successfully countered most of the offensive unmanned aircraft overnight into Wednesday.
A Russian attack substantially impacted one of Ukraine's thermal power plants, officials reported on midweek. Two employees were wounded in the assault, as reported by industry sources. Sources gave no further information, regarding the site's whereabouts, but national sources said Russia struck power facilities in the Chernihiv region, southern Ukraine and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Civilian Impact
In the border community of the Shostka area, hit hard by the military campaign against the electrical grid, local government has established temporary shelters where people can find shelter, drink hot tea, maintain communication capability and access mental health services, according to local official.
Diplomatic Response
Kyiv's representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on Wednesday called on NATO members to step up purchases of American military equipment for Kyiv. “The situation isn't that we prioritize United States armaments rather than French or German or other international equipment – the issue is that we require the America for weapons which EU members don't possess,” said Ukraine's NATO envoy.
Germany's national police will soon be allowed to shoot down drones, government official declared on midweek, after a spate of UAV observations suspected as Russian efforts to conduct surveillance and threaten. Announcing legal changes, the official said law enforcement would receive permission “to implement sophisticated countermeasures against drone threats, for example with electronic countermeasures, jamming, GPS interference, but also with kinetic methods”.
EU Protection Challenges
European Commission President declared on Wednesday that Europe must strengthen its protective capabilities to deter Russia's “hybrid warfare” in response to airspace breaches, computer network operations and damage to undersea cables. “These aren't isolated incidents. It is a coherent and escalating campaign,” the official said in a address before the EU legislative body. “Two incidents are random chance, but several, many, frequent – this is a deliberate and targeted hybrid threat strategy against Europe, and European countries should answer.”
Displacement Situation
The Swiss authorities has continued its protection status offered to Ukrainian refugees to at least 4 March 2027. Temporary protection, which allows people to leave the country as well as work in Switzerland, is typically restricted to one year but can be extended. “The ruling shows the persistent unstable environment and ongoing military actions across extensive regions of the country,” said a Swiss government statement. “Regardless of global diplomatic initiatives, a lasting stabilisation that would permit safe return is not expected in the foreseeable future.”
