A female indicted with stalking Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a recorded message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has persistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told call records and data retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout that period.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most widely reported missing child cases and continues to be unsolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

Another recorded message, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I know."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "What if there is a slight possibility that I'm her? Then what? Is that not important for you?"

"I don't want money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I just want to discover," the message continued.

The jury was told that via emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a bid to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a childhood with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who collated the data, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the call data.

On that date, Gerry McCann picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."

During that incident Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I won't give up and I will prove my point."

The court heard the co-defendant developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in that winter.

Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period before the trip to that location, Leicestershire, in December 2024.

The court was told correspondence between the two defendants, in that autumn, discussing endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from silverware at a eating establishment.

"We have to make a stand," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the appearance to their house, Mrs Spragg dispatched a message which said: "We find ourselves positioned near the McCanns' home with our lights out similar to private investigators.
