The Actress States Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels appropriate to comment publicly against the Trump government, fearing it could worsen divisive discussions and deepen rifts within the nation.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains Lawrence
In a recent interview, she reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, through repeated campaigns, celebrities do not make a difference at all on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about backing Republican and Democratic presidential nominees in past elections. Growing up with conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and explaining she recognized during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she commented that Trump winning the presidency would be “a disaster” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “as I believe she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will take all necessary steps to protect reproductive rights.”
Celebrity Views
Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence public figures have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years appears changed,” noted she about his leadership. “Because he said what he was going to do. We understood his record for four years. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is highlighting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a young mom who faces challenges with her emotional state in rural Montana. During a press conference for the film in Venice, the star addressed the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a atrocity and it’s horrible.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the conversations of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be accepted to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence sought to redirect frustration about the conflict to leaders rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she said, which was interpreted as a nod to the declaration endorsed by numerous Hollywood professionals to avoid certain cultural organizations.
Individual Insights
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim early in her career for her part in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her work in her latest project. Although Lynne Ramsay has rejected the story being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, the actress shared that she connected with aspects of her role’s experience after the delivery of her youngest child, soon after shooting ended.
“It was fear for my son,” she said, “imagining every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I got on a medication called the prescription and I took it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
The actor also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, about having to cast off vanity. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
