The English golfer Wins the Abu Dhabi Title in Dramatic Play-Off Showdown Versus Tommy Fleetwood
The 30-year-old golfer displayed exceptional composure to secure the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Sunday, defeating Tommy Fleetwood in a dramatic playoff after a rollercoaster final round of competition.
The Englishman sank a crucial birdie from around eight feet to clinch the win, echoing his sole prior Rolex Series success at the 2020 Scottish Open, which was also a play-off win against Fleetwood.
Sunday's Play Drama
Rai entered the last day with a one-shot advantage over fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard. He finished with a total score of twenty-under after a up-and-down, 67 closing round that included seven birdie putts and two bogeys.
Fleetwood edged a stroke ahead with the 16th and 17th remaining after a birdie putt on the sixteenth, but his rival tied it up again on the seventeenth and then missed a ten-foot birdie putt to claim victory on the final hole.
Playoff Decider
That led to a playoff at Yas Links where Rai prevailed to claim the championship and $1.5m (ÂŁ1.13 million) in prize money.

Notable Contenders
The Northern Irish star found himself just too much to do, coming up one shot short in a shared third place with Højgaard, after a spectacular 10-under closing round of ten-under. It was his best-ever round on the DP World Tour, including eight birdies and an eagle.
Højgaard carded six birdie putts of his own, but his chances of topping the leaderboard were dented by a bogey on the twelfth. England’s Mansell hit an superb final-round 63 to end up in a tie for fifth place with Australian Daniel Hillier.
