'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await Answers After Ski Resort Blaze
The relatives of young people unaccounted for after a devastating blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and appealing for any details about their children online.
The blaze ripped through the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Confirmed footage show the roof structure igniting as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have indicated that it could take an extended period to identify the victims of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. Officials stated on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with the process continuing to name the other six.
In the interim, families and friends have been using online platforms to request clues about their missing relatives who were in attendance that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are not yet determined, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the same in the capital, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she stated.
She continued that some of his companions had been found with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured hell."
The Italy's foreign ministry has indicated that six of its citizens are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, who hailed from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"A close friend told me they ran away after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers said, "I remember his kindness and smile, combined with great responsibility. Often ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to sources.
Her sibling has published an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are continuing to monitor the situation.
